GERALD J. PAPPERT, ESQ.
Executive Vice President & General Counsel

Jerry Pappert is Executive Vice President and General Counsel for Cephalon, overseeing the company’s legal and public policy matters relating to commercial and financial transactions, litigation, intellectual property, corporate and securities matters and government relations.

Mr. Pappert brings an accomplished legal and public policy background to Cephalon.  He is an experienced trial and appellate attorney and has successfully argued appeals in state and federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court.  Before joining the company in 2008, he was a partner in the Litigation Department and a member of the White Collar Litigation and the Government Relations & Regulatory Affairs Groups at the Philadelphia-based law firm of Ballard Spahr.

Prior to joining Ballard Spahr, Mr. Pappert served as the Attorney General of Pennsylvania from 2003-2005.   From 1997-2003, he served as Pennsylvania’s First Deputy Attorney General.   While in the Attorney General’s office, Mr. Pappert personally handled a number of important legal matters, including significant constitutional issues.  From 1988-1996, he conducted a litigation practice at another large Philadelphia law firm.

Mr. Pappert remains active in Pennsylvania state government, serving as a legislative appointee to the Board of the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an entity which provides, among other things, financial assistance in the form of loans, loan guarantees, grants and private equity participating loans to promote activities which lead to the creation and retention of jobs within Pennsylvania.  Mr. Pappert is also a member of the Society of Attorneys General Emeritus (SAGE), an organization of former State Attorneys General.

In 2008, Mr. Pappert and his wife Ellen founded The George Fund at Keystone Hospice.  The Fund, named for the Papperts’ late son, is dedicated to pediatric hospice care and helps provide for the care and comfort of terminally ill children and their families.

Mr. Pappert is a graduate of Villanova University (B.A., with honors, 1985) and the University of Notre Dame Law School (J.D. 1988).
