Cephalon Supports Pain Awareness Month
For patients with cancer-related breakthrough pain, describing the type of pain that they experience to their loved ones and healthcare professionals can be very difficult. In recognition of Pain Awareness Month in September, Cephalon broadened its efforts to raise awareness and increase understanding of breakthrough pain associated with cancer among patients and the general public. By providing education and resources about this condition, Cephalon hopes to promote meaningful conversations between patients and healthcare professionals.
“Breakthrough pain associated with cancer is a debilitating condition that can have an impact on a patient’s physical and psychological well-being," said Lesley Russell, MB.ChB., MRCP, Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President at Cephalon. “It is often under recognized and under-treated because patients find it difficult to articulate this type of pain. Fortunately, there are ways to facilitate the discussion between patient and healthcare professional so patients better understand the condition and can get the appropriate treatment.”
As an example of this ongoing commitment, Cephalon sponsored an advertorial in the September 25, 2009, edition of USA Today highlighting cancer-related breakthrough pain and the importance of effective patient-healthcare professional communication. The advertorial also honors the pain advocacy community for their efforts to improve the lives of people living with pain. To view the advertorial, please click here.
